Search and Site Health

The Search page in the site sidebar answers one question: how is my site doing in Google and in AI assistants like ChatGPT and Perplexity, and what should I do next? At the top sits the Site health card. Below it, once you connect Google, are your real search numbers.

Everything on the card is read from your own site and, when connected, your own Google Search Console. It needs no extra account or key.

The Site health card

The card shows a ring with how many checks pass (for example 5/9), one sentence about the state of your site, and up to three things to do next.

SentenceMeans
Search engines can’t find your site yet, start hereThe site has never been built, or it has no web address.
Your site needs attentionAt least one important check is failing. The sentence says how many things to fix.
Your site is in good shapeWhat is left, if anything, is a quick fix.

Under Do this next the most useful fixes come first, and a one-click fix comes before a trip to another page. The first button is the filled one. Each step has a small ? beside it. Click or tap it (or press Enter when it has focus) to read why the step matters.

When nothing is left to fix, the card says so. Open See everything at the bottom for every row, with an icon for each:

  • a tick means it passed
  • an open circle means it needs a fix
  • an information icon is background that is never counted, such as how many searches put you on Google’s first page
  • a clock means it cannot be measured yet

Checks on posts skip any post you have set to noindex.

The built-page check

Once the site has been built, WordPuppi scans the built pages, up to 500 of them on a large site, and reports at most the two biggest problems:

  • pages that link to a page that does not exist (Open posts)
  • images with no description for screen readers and Google (Open posts)
  • pages with no main heading (Open pages)
  • images over 500 KB, which slow a page down (Open media)

The hint beside each lists a few examples so you know where to look. When it finds nothing the row reads “Your pages passed a basic check”.

Search Console rows

When Google Search Console is connected, the card adds rows from the last 28 days of your own search data. The numbers are refreshed about once a day.

  • Give a post a sharper title and description. A post that Google shows at least 100 times but that fewer than 2 in 100 people click. The hint lists the top searches that find it. Edit post.
  • You’re just off page 1. A search where your average position is between 11 and 20, and a post is the page Google shows for it. Edit post.
  • Write a post that answers it. A search with at least 50 impressions that none of your post titles covers. Write a post opens a new post with the search as its title.
  • You show up on Google’s first page for N searches. Information only: it is never counted and never a next step.

Connecting Google Search Console

If Google is not connected, the Search page shows Connect Google Search Console. Press it and approve read access to the site’s Search Console data. If the server has no Google connection set up, the page tells you Search Console is not configured yet instead of failing.

Once connected, a table lists each page with its Clicks, Impressions, CTR, and Position. A new site can take a few days before Google reports anything. Disconnect, at the top right of the page, removes the connection.

On the desktop app the Google approval opens in your system browser, and the page updates when you switch back to the app.
